There comes a time in a child’s life when they are asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”. My first answer was to become a lawyer. Then it soon changed to a doctor. I also considered becoming a famous singer and even a news anchor. Why would I choose these occupations when I did not necessarily know anyone in these fields to influence me? They were all exposed to me through film and videos.
Growing up, I was not the most talkative child. I kept to myself and stuck to my hobbies; writing, drawing, and creating videos. I loved watching tv shows and movies with my family, and what I saw continued to shape my imagination as a child. My mind was a place that created endless ideas. As a kid, I wrote a series of scripts and learned to edit at the young age of 11. I created my own kid newscasts and music videos with my favorite songs at the time. All I wanted to do was tell stories!
Where I'm from, people told me there were no film opportunities. However, my father saw my passion for video and discovered a way for me to learn more about it in an academic setting as a high school freshman. The knowledge I gained from this opportunity helped me win a statewide video production competition and participate in nationals. That only motivated me more! I created so many video projects for schools and businesses. My passion for storytelling continued to grow! But it was not until I graduated from high school until I realized, my love for writing and creating videos was how I loved to communicate.
When it was time for college, I knew that I wanted to be a part of the undergraduate Communication program at my university. Being an undergraduate film student provided me with lots more of knowledge and growth. I learned the importance of creating a storyboard, following the rule of thirds, lighting, audio, and location. I learned how editing a video a certain way can make or break the story. College even introduced me to the current way I make animated videos. There were times when life got unbelievably stressful, but I was happy with the path I chose.
Into adulthood, the career I decided to pursue was television broadcasting. I was really fortunate to actually get a job in the broadcast industry. Not only was I able to catch on fast, but I got the opportunity to work in an environment I've practically prepared for since I was a child. The idea of creating a video business came to me after I joined the TV industry, but I figured I had enough knowledge and experience to take that leap of faith. From that moment, Life, Camera, Action was created! Video has a huge impact and it's taken me places I'd never imagined. Like anyone, the future is scary to think about, but one thing is for sure, videos will make it's way to my life.
Throughout my journey as a video creator, I've been able to provide a wide range of audiovisual services to people who want their stories told. I've been able to propose ideas and execute them through the entire video process. I've presented professional video quality and a final sequence that evokes emotions from viewers. I've given people a way to express themselves in a way they never had before. Seeing people happy with the projects I create for them will always make what I do worth it. There were always film opportunities wherever I went. I just had to create them!
